Technique: mixed media on cancas, wood...
Self-taught artist, born in 1971, RAF URBAN grew up in the southern suburbs of Paris. In the 80s, it was under the influence of urban culture that he evolved in contact with the atmosphere of the street, discovering the graffiti and hip hop movement. It is the stencil technique that attracts him, for its efficiency, its repetition, its multiple possibilities, its militant and poetic side, this tool becomes his favorite mode of expression, which he has since placed on the walls.
Instigator and defender of the "Diversity Is Hope" movement, RAF URBAN uses his stencils, from which colorful faces are born, to spread to as many people as possible a message of diversity, hope and tolerance, but also a questioning of our capacity to turn towards others, and live in harmony. His approach represents the fact of accepting others and mixing our colors, our influences, our histories and our religions.
His work can be found on the walls of many cities around the world: Paris, Turin, Rome, Barcelona, London, New York, Toronto, Montreal…
His artworks are part of our thematic gallery urbain art
